Counseling programs and services at Coolbaugh are dynamic and interactive. In kindergarten, weekly contact through classroom guidance helps children establish positive relationships with peers, teachers and with the counselor. Guidance programs in grades one and two are for all children and focus, respectively, on the uniqueness of self and then on the uniqueness of others. These groups are time limited and allow for each child to experience developmental programming. Individual and small group counseling is also available. Positive social relationships are stressed throughout these three years. As a child matures and grows into the upper grades, counseling services focus more on individual and small group services. Supportive services become very important at this level as children are often challenged emotionally and academically. The overall focus of counseling services here at Coolbaugh is one of cooperation, communication and commitment. |
