Explore:  MovieMaker, Publisher, PowerPoint, PhotoStory, Digital Cameras, Digital Video, and more.  The SIS Computer Club takes an end-of-the-year field trip and sponsors the Spring Beach Bash Dance.  Join in the fun.

Each meeting has a country and its culture as the theme for the week. We participate in a variety of activities that pertain to that country and its culture. These activities may range from cultural videos, preparing food from that country, sampling food from that country, making crafts or learning songs or dances from that country. We typically learn something about the life of a school child and a little about family life. We are currently studying Japan. At our last meeting, we made and ate sushi, learned how to do a Sudoku puzzle, and made a flapping origami bird. In November, the club members will be visiting the Tokyo Tea House where the Japanese owner will prepare a special Japanese dinner for the students and explain all the foods to them. All SIS students are welcome to join our club. See you there!

Students will be looking at various issues (global warming, pollution, environmental hazards...) as well as the plants and animals that make up the natural environment of the Pocono area.  We will also be participating in the Junior Envirothon at Kettle Creek in the spring.

Students will conduct original scientific research and present their findings at the regional meeting at King's College in March 2008.  If students score a first award at the regional meeting, they get the opportunity to present their findings again at the state level at The Pennsylvania State University in May 2008.

The National Junior Honor Society is a group of students who excel academically and have contributed to their home and school communities in a significant manner.  Throughout the year, society members participate in various school and community service projects, in addition to maintaining an average GPA of 95 or better.  Students find the society both enjoyable and worthwhile.  Within the National Junior Honor Society, students strive to espouse the tenets of Leadership, Service, Character and Scholarship.

At the close of the third marking period, students with a 95 average or higher will be invited to complete an information sheet.  This information sheet is designed to allow students to share an overall picture of themselves to the faculty council.  It asks students to give detailed information about their participation in activities both in school and in their community.  The information sheet also encompasses the areas of leadership, as well as awards earned in the past two years.

Potential candidates are encouraged to participate in various clubs and activities throughout the year, taking on leadership roles when available.

Students take pictures throughout the school day, special events, and after-school sporting events.  Members of the club use their pictures to create a yearbook page!

PMTV Live meets all year during homeroom to deliver the SIS morning announcements live.  Camera crew and TV personalities needed.  Eighth grade students join in the Fall and 7th grade students can join in the Spring.

Reading Competition Club involves students in grades 7 and 8 reading a list of approximately 30 titles.  Then they will compete against other 6th, 7th, and 8th graders by answering questions about those books.  THe Spring Challenge will be held in April 2008 at Easton High School.

S
ADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is a club that has a philosophy that young people help each other, and is the most effective force in prevention. It is a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, teen violence, teen depression and suicide.  Ultimately SADD has the potential to lead the youth culture into a new era where young people passionately embrace their ability and desire to nurture and protect minds, bodies, spirits and futures. We organize and run school wide activities, raise money for local charities, and educate peers.

Each month students will have the chance to compete against other members in science related events. Many of these events challenge students to create a device that will accomplish a specific task, such as to protect an egg from breaking in the Egg Drop. Science Club members also help with the Nature Center garden each spring and have the opportunity to participate in environmental projects in the community. Along with these activities we will be having a Mythbuster night, where we will be discussing  the show and the science behind the show.

Six trips to Camelback Mountain!  Each week students will receive an ability-based lesson, rentals (if needed), and recreational skiing.

Club activities include enrichment, studying Spanish cultures, making Spanish crafts, sampling and making Spanish foods, and watching Spanish videos. All of our activities are an extension of our Spanish Level I curriculum.

The vocal jazz ensemble is an enrichment activity open to any chorus member in our school.

Creating a healthy lifestyle that includes good food choices and a variety of exercises will be the focus of the club. Reading food labels, learning about the dangers of some of the ingredients in our food, trying healthy recipes and learning about various types of exercises(yoga, Pilates, strength building and endurance building) will all be part of what we do.
