Welcome to the Pocono Mountain School District Transportation Department. Pocono Mountain School District is partnering with First Student Inc. to provide regular and special education transportation services for students that reside in the Pocono Mountain School District. The Transportation Department through its support of educational programs provides safe, efficient and quality transportation to all students. The Transportation Department utilizes a state of the art routing system and CDC data to provide a safe environment for all students. The Transportation Department can assist families new to the area in determining which school their child/children will attend.

Loading or Unloading

You must stop on roadways with painted lines.
You must stop at an intersection, whether it is or is not marked with a stop sign. All traffic must stop.
You must stop on roadways with ridged/grooved dividers.

Parents/Guardians/Students: Please be aware that school buses and vans are equipped with audio and video capabilities to ensure safety on buses. Students are expected to act responsibly, respect the school bus driver and follow bus rules for a safe ride to and from school.

School Bus Safety

The Transportation Department can assist families new to the area in determining which school their child/children will attend. Parents may call the East Transportation Office at (570) 839-7121, extension 30430 or 30437, or the West Transportation Office at (570) 839-7121, extension 31421 or 31430, for assistance.

First Student bus drivers attend safety training workshops twice yearly and are dedicated to ensuring District children are transported safely to and from school.

School Bus Safety Guidelines for Students and Parents:
Getting on the school bus

Make sure children arrive 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus. Parents should NEVER try to catch a bus if their child misses the bus. Instead, please drive your child directly to school to ensure his/her safety.
When waiting for the bus, instruct children to stay away from traffic and avoid roughhousing or other behavior.
Keep children away from the street or road as the school bus approaches – Make sure your child is mindful of the Bus Danger Zone – the area around a bus where children are in most danger. Children should stay 10 feet away from the bus and never go behind it.
Instruct children to wait until the bus has stopped completely and the bus driver signals that it’s OK to approach the bus before stepping onto the roadway.

Behavior on the bus

Please share with your child that loud talking or other noise can distract the bus driver. It is required that students respect those around them and the requests of the bus driver.
Children should never put their head, arms or hands out of the window, nor should they throw anything out of the window.
Keep aisles clear -- books or bags are tripping hazards and can block the exit in an emergency.
Children should wait for the bus to stop completely before getting up from their seat.
Children may only bring items onto the bus that will fit in their laps. If large projects need to be brought to school, please arrange alternative transportation for your child.

Getting off the school bus

If your child must cross the street in front of a bus, make sure they know to walk at least 10 feet ahead of the bus along the side of the road, until they can turn around and see the driver signal to them that it is OK to cross the street.
Children should always make sure bus drivers can see them.
When the driver signals, children may walk across the road, keeping an eye out for sudden traffic changes.

Crossing the street

Children should always stop at the curb or the edge of the road and look left, then right, and then left again before crossing.
They should continue looking in this manner until they are safely across the street.
If students' vision is blocked by a parked car or other obstacle, they should move out to where drivers can see them and they can see other vehicles -- then stop, and look left-right-left again.

What can parents do to help ensure children’s safety?

Reinforce safety awareness among children by reviewing bus safety procedures with them.
Arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus. Please, NEVER, follow or try to flag down a bus if you are late in dropping off your child at the bus stop. If your child gets out of the car and tries to “catch” a bus, it puts them in grave danger. The best response would be to continue to drive your child directly to school.
Continue to update your emergency contact information with the school that your child attends.
Work with other Safety Team Members such as the school nurse for medical concerns, school bus driver for bus safety concerns, etc.
When you see a school bus, be mindful of children getting on or off of the bus.
When you meet a school bus with red signal lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST STOP.
DO NOT MOVE until all the children are safely loaded or are 10 feet off of the road and have reached a place of safety.

Getting Started

FirstView Registration Instructions

Please note that first student only updates its database every Friday evening.

1. Download the FirstView® Parent App

Go to firstviewapp.com or find FirstView® in the App Store or Google Play and follow the instructions to download the app to your smartphone.

*You can also access the Parent App in your browser at web.firstviewapp.com

2. Set Up Your Profile

Open the FirstView® app from your homescreen and begin the registration process. You’ll be asked to:

a) Select State/Province

b) Select District You’ll then be prompted to REGISTER*.

3. Follow a Stop

Once you have confirmed your account, login and select Profile to “Add A Student”. To add a student you will need your child's FirstView® Student Code and FirstView® School Code. Your child’s individual, unique FirstView® Student Code and the FirstView® School Code have been added to the PMSD ParentPortal. Please log into your ParentPortal Account and select Bus Information from the left hand menu. The FirstView® Student Code and School Code are the last items listed under Bus Information (see below).

Type in FirstViewsecurity code (Code for PMSD is T6T7W), followed by the your FirstView student ID and student's LAST Name. (Parent can obtain their child student ID and security code through the Parent Portal).

Once you select “Done”, you will be able to see stop information in your Profile. The Scheduled Stop times will also appear on your FirstView® Map. You may track multiple students.

4. Set Notifications

Go to Settings and select “Notification Recipients” to add email notifications for up to 3 recipients, including yourself. From this screen, you can also edit your Profile or follow another student’s stop. Alerts and notifications from your district or the bus depot will appear under Notifications in the menu.

5. Set Up Time and Distance Alerts

To set up alerts for when the bus is a certain time or distance away from the stop, go to Profile and select your student. You can set alerts for both AM and PM dispatch. These alerts will be displayed under Notifications in the menu.

*To receive push notifications, you must allow your mobile device to receive notifications from the FirstView® app. You will be prompted upon downloading the app or you can confirm/update your settings within your phone’s app settings. (Delays & Cancellations are automatically included in these push notifications)
