WHS Morning Announcements 6.10.2019

“177th”Day of School





Regular after school tutoring has resumed.  All students are welcome and must sign up in the office during their lunch in order to attend.  See scrolling announcements for specific subjects and days.


Students will not be allowed to enter the cafeteria for breakfast after 7:20 for A breakfast and 7:38 for B breakfast.


Students may not leave the building for any reason except to get on their busses or be picked up. Students who are staying for any after school activity must remain in the building at all times, if students go to the bus lot and do not get on their busses, they will not be allowed back into the building for safety reasons.


Parking enforcement has begun.  All students must have a valid WHS parking permit in order to drive to school.  Applications can be found in the main office


Detentions need to be served in the 5 allotted days.  Tutoring will NOT be accepted in place of a detention without administrative approval in advance.


Detention is held after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 2:35-5:00 in rm 216 and 218.


Flip flops or Slides are not permitted to be worn during the school day. If you choose to wear a shirt with a logo on it, you can purchase a button in the main office for $2.00.


Students are to arrive on time for lunch each day. It is expected that students are in the cafeteria before the late bell rings. Students that are late to lunch will need a late pass or the lateness will be treated as a late to class.


Any student leaving school for an early dismissal must sign out through attendance and obtain a pass. Students leaving the building without following proper procedures will result in 3 days of ISS.


Students are reminded that they are not permitted to wear backpacks or book bags during the school day. String bags are allowed, but all book bags and backpacks need to be stored in their lockers.


Students are also reminded that they are not allowed to wear any facial piercings. These need to be removed prior to starting the school day.

Breakfast - Students should not enter the cafeteria to socialize without eating. If this happens students will receive a consequence.

Hooded sweatshirts are to be put in your locker before 1st period bell and are prohibited to be carried or worn throughout the day. No exceptions.

No food or drinks are permitted outside of the cafeteria. If you are caught with food or drinks in the hallways there will be consequences. 


Please be advised that all students are to be supervised after school.   Therefore, students are not allowed to "hang around" after school without being supervised by an adult.  This also includes students "hanging around" at the West Jr. High School.




Athletic Events: No scheduled events.


Any girls interested in playing soccer for the Fall 2019 season , we will have a brief meeting during A and B breakfast in the aux. gym today, Monday June 10th.


Girls Volleyball will be holding summer open gyms on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 pm from Monday June 17 through Thursday August 8 at the West Junior High School for any girls interested in trying out for the high school team this fall. Tryouts will begin on Monday August 12 and practices will be held each weekday until school begins. Schedule is subject to change due to gym availability. If you are new to the program and want to participate, please email Coach Slater at and provide your contact information so you can be informed of any changes in the schedule.


Wrestling: Charlie Maloy and MarkWilliams Competed at the the PAWF's Freestyle and Greco Roman States this past weekend.  Mark Williams finished 3rd in Greco Roman Style Wrestling. Charlie Maloy finished 3rd in Freestyle and 1st in Greco Roman.Charlie is our programs 1st Greco Roman Champion.


Students are NOT allowed to stay after school to watch any Athletic games at either the High School or Junior High School.  If you want to watch the games you must go home on your regular bus and come back! You may NOT hang out after school unsupervised!!


East Penn Conference Student Character Council Representatives: The following student/athletes have been nominated and have accepted their nomination to serve on the SAC Council for 2019-2020 school year: Juniors- Charli Cordoves and JD Greeley. Sheamus McCarroll and Caroline Weirich will continue to serve as our Sr. Athlete Reps.




Due to the high demand, a re-order for 2019 yearbooks has been placed. If you would like to reserve your copy, bring $55 cash to Mrs. Merino in C002 by the end of the school year. The re-ordered yearbooks will arrive by the end of June.


Attention juniors. Your senior portrait will be taken here at the West High School from July 22nd - 30th. You should have received your personalized appointment card from your homeroom teacher. If you wish to appear in the yearbook, you must have a formal cap and gown portrait taken. There is no charge for your yearbook portrait. If you cannot make your appointment in the summer, retake sessions will be scheduled some time in the fall.


Underclassmen - all library materials must be returned to the library before the end of the school year.


Attention, 11th grade students.  You must turn in your 11th grade physical and proof that you had the 2nd dose of the meningitis vaccine BEFORE entering 12th grade.  You cannot enter 12th grade until the nurse receives this information.


Have you visited the School Store during lunch lately?  If not, you should stop by and check out the new stuff that is being sold!  You might just see some cookies and chocolate to satisfy your sweet tooth!  You may even find some new kinds of chips! Stop by during your lunch to see all of the new stuff we are selling! 


Did you know the tabs on your aluminum cans can be used to help pay for medical procedures and equipment in children’s hospitals? Please help collect them to help give children with medical problems a better future. Please put your tabs in the container located in the front office. See Ms. Piccarreta if you have any questions.




Students in grades 9-12 for the 2019-2020 academic year: Voice of America Patriotic Essay contest sponsored by the VFW is offering a grand prize of $30,000.00.  Due date is October 31, 2019.  Stop in the guidance office for more information before you leave for summer break.


The guidance office has a few job opportunities available for this summer and possible year round employment. Stop by for more information.


“Let’s Lunch” would like to invite anyone and everyone who wants to make a friend at lunch to join us during your lunch period.  If you would like to sit at a lunch table with other friends, or just make some new friends, “Let’s Lunch” might be for you. Take a seat and sit with us today! Come to the guidance office and sign up for “Let’s Lunch”. 


Innovations Challenge Contest encourages students in grades 9-12 to use their problem solving, creative and strategic thinking abilities to solve real world transportation challenges.  This year’s challenge asks students to look at cost effective technologies to get drivers to slow down in work zones.  Stop in the guidance office for more information.
