27 Pocono Mountain students excelled at the state-level Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition

 

Pocono Mountain School District students showcased their scientific abilities at the state-level Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition at Penn State May 19 through 21.

 

District students earned 1 Directors Award, 3 Perfect Scores, 5 Perseverance Awards, 15 First Awards, and 7 Second Awards.

 

East High School senior Kristina Rinaldi earned the Directors Award in Microbiology for the State of Pennsylvania.

 

Earning Perfect Scores were Kristina Rinaldi, East High School senior; Jace Eisler, West High School sophomore; and Jessica Rinaldi, East Junior High School 8th grader.

 

East High School students who earned Perseverance Awards were seniors Rocco Polimeni (4 years) and Kristina Rinaldi (4 years); and juniors Jackie Dudley (4 years), Dean Nyberg (5 years), and Dushaun Thompson (4 years).

 

First Award winners were East High School seniors Alexander Lindenbaum and Marco Polimeni; junior Emma Thompson; sophomores Roshan Forde and Maya Yagan; and freshman Brynn Withey.

 

West High School students who earned First Awards were senior Amanda Moody and sophomore Jace Eisler.

 

In addition, East Junior High School students who earned First Awards were 8th graders Daniella Eralnger, Emma Farley, Alyssa King, Alexa Petroff, Jessica Rinaldi, Madison Rios, and Asia Spooner.

 

Earning Second Awards were East High School senior Michael Olsen; East High School sophomores Santiago Churion and Patricia Olsen; West High School freshman Kiel Birthwright; East Junior High School 8th graders Jaden Cook and Katelyn Ingrassi; and 7th grader Adam Kacmercwicz.

 

Before these District students could move forward to the state-level competition, they had to excel at the regional level at Wilkes University on March 2 and compete against more than 600 students from schools throughout the Northeast Region.
