Message of sympathy from Dr. Elizabeth Robison, Superintendent of Schools:

On behalf of our entire Pocono Mountain School District and Board of Education, I extend my most sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Michael Loverdi, an English Language Arts Teacher at Pocono Mountain West Junior High School, who passed away on March 7, 2020.

Michael was a valued member of our PMSD team for 18.5 years.  He was loved by his students, coworkers, administrators and parents. Prior to transferring to the West Junior High School in 2016, Michael taught at the West High School, Pocono Mountain Academy, Swiftwater Intermediate School and Clear Run Intermediate School.

His love of working with students extended beyond his classroom into athletics as an assistant coach for the West 7th Grade Football team. Throughout his career, he also worked with student athletes as a West High School Baseball Conditioning Coach, West Junior High Weightlifting Coach, Clear Run Intermediate Conditioning Coach and West 7th/8th Grade Wrestling Coach.

Michael graduated from Passaic Valley Regional High School in Little Falls, New Jersey. After high school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wilkes University.

Michael will be greatly missed by our entire Pocono Mountain School District community.

Whenever there is a death within our PMSD school community, some of our students and staff have trouble grieving, understanding and coping. We will have crisis counselors available at the West Junior High School for as long as needed to help our students, faculty and staff.

Our Sullivan Trail Campus will be closed to media during school hours for the remainder of the week as we try to help our school community through this terrible loss.
