PM East HS School Counselor receives Outstanding Secondary School Partner Award

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine recently presented the Outstanding Secondary School Partner Award to Renee Garvey, School Counselor and Career Educator at Pocono Mountain East High School (EHS).

The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine partners with Sanofi Pasteur to offer high school students the Geisinger Biomedical Program. This program is enabling 22 EHS students, who are interested in pursuing a medical career after they graduate high school, to be mentored by current medical students. This opportunity includes a monthly in-person educational learning experience on Geisinger’s medical school campus in Scranton, Pa.  Recently, the EHS students participating in the program dissected pigs, operated tools used in laparoscopic surgery, and learned about skin cancer.

This program would not be possible without the generous funding from Sanofi.

“It is reassuring to know a global healthcare and pharmaceutical company values the local community,” said Ms. Garvey. “Based on the students participating, Geisinger and Sanofi will certainly be getting a great return on their investment.”
