East High School Odyssey of the Mind Team finishes 2nd in the World
The East High School Odyssey of the Mind team earned a spot on the podium with their 2nd place finish at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. The team of (front row) Declan Angulo (sophomore); and (back row, left to right) Alorah Badman (sophomore), Will Crosby (freshman), Liam Bock (sophomore) Hayden Christman (freshman), Sophia Hernandez (freshman), and Samantha Christman (junior) were excited to accept the 2nd place trophy.
East High School Odyssey of the Mind Team finishes 2nd in the World
Congratulations to the Pocono Mountain East High School Odyssey of the Mind team on the team’s 2nd place finish in the World Finals, the highest finish at Worlds for a district team.
East High School junior Samantha Christman, sophomores Declan Angulo, Alorah Badman and Liam Bock, and freshmen Hayden Christman, Will Crosby and Sophia Hernandez, coached by Jamie Schweppenheiser and Chelsea Straub, competed at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University in Lansing, MI, over Memorial Day weekend. The East High School team pitted its skills against 42 other teams from across the United States, South Korea, Poland and Hong Kong in the AstronOMical Division 3 problem to earn 2nd place honors and their spot on the awards podium. A team from Sopot, Poland took the 1st place honors with less than 5 points separating the two teams.
Two other Pocono Mountain School District teams competed at the World Finals. The East Junior High School team of 8th grader Benjamin Mancini, and 7th graders Erika Cooper, Neylan Cox, Salvatore Cubeta, Penelope Hecht, Zola Marshall, and Amir Ward, coached by Jennifer Fiore and Galen Smith, competed in the OM-Mazing Race Division 2 problem, earning 11th Place against 49 other teams. The East Junior High School team of 8th graders Victoria Kipe, Chase Kouris, Maddison Laubach, Emily Lundberg, Benjamin Mancini and Savannah VanAuken, and 7th grader Eli Lake, also coached by Fiore and Smith, competed in the AstronOMical Division 2 problem, finishing in 14th place, after competing against 63 other teams.
PMSD officials are very proud of the outstanding East High School and East Junior High School Odyssey of the Mind teams who excelled through the regional and state competitions to shine at the Odyssey World Finals.
