2023-2024:
Carter Mui competed for the second straight year in the PIAA state championship meet @ Bucknell University. He swam the 100 yard Butterfly and placed 21st in the state with a time of 51.46 breaking the school record he previously held. He also swam in the 100 yard Breaststroke making it into the finals and placing 7th in the state with a time of 56.77. Carter ends his high school swimming career with 4 school records, multiple pool records in the EPC, 2 time District XI Champion and 2 time PIAA State Qualifier.

Congratulate the Cross Country team on a great season. Leading the way was Senior Kaya Meler, who placed 2nd in the EPC League Championships 2 weeks ago with a time of 19:34. This is the fastest time of a West athlete on the Desales League course! Last Wednesday, Kaya placed 3rd for the bronze medal in the District 11 Championships - which is the highest District placing West runner in history. She also had 4-first place finishes this season in regular season meets. She was awarded First Team All-EPC and is currently our school record holder. She will compete Saturday at 11am in the PIAA State Championships in Hershey. Overall the team dropped almost 23:00 total throughout the season!
Kaya Meler ended up getting 26th at the state championship.
Senior Ashlyn McCormick competed in the PIAA Girls Golf Championship on Monday and Tuesday (10/16 and 10/17). Not only is she the first female to make the tournament, but she is the first golfer in PM West history to compete in the PIAA Championship.
Senior Kaya Meler came in 2nd place in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference cross country meet yesterday (Tuesday, October 17, 2023). Her time of 19:34 was her best on the course for her career, as well as the best female time in the history for PM West.
Ashlyn McCormick, a Senior at Pocono Mt West placed 3rd in the District XI golf Championship. This also qualified her for the State Championship on Oct 16th & 17th at Penn State University. Ashlyn also made her first hole-in-one to help secure her 3rd place and go to states.

Christian Fermin set a new school record for points scored in a game vs rival Pocono Mountain East last night in a 87-49 West win.
The 6'10" VCU commit finished with 43 points, 15 rebounds & 8 blocks.
He also broke the school record for FG's made in a game with 21.
West's previous school record was 36 points scored in a game which was shared by Justin Smith '21, Lance Singh '17 & Thomas Alexander '05.
Congratulations to SENIOR ELLA BRAY for her 6th place finish at Thursday's District 11 Championship meet! She is the highest place finisher that PMWXC has ever had at the D11 meet. Ella will compete at the PIAA State Championships next Saturday in Hershey. She will leave our XC program as the school record holder (set by Janette Adams in 2004) with her career best time of 19:30.
All 9 runners placed in the top 100 runners. Chris Reed set a personal best on the very tough course for his last meet of the year.
Senior Ella Bray, a 6-year member of the Cross Country Team, broke the 17 year old school record by 8 seconds, set in 2004 by Janette Adams. Ella ran 19:30 on Tuesday at Pleasant Valley (against ESN, ESS, PV, PME and Stroudsburg). Over the past few weeks, she has beat her career personal record each week, with a previous best time of 19:53.

Missed qualifying to states by 1 spot, (Top 3 advance) score of 82 was the cutoff.
She had a slow start,, but finished the last 10 holes solid to get back into contention.

2019-2020:
The Wrestling team attended the District 11 tournament last weekend. The team placed 16th. The following individuals placed Charlie Maloy 6th at 182 and Jon Owens 4th at 195. Jon owens will be competing at the NE Regional Competition this Friday and Saturday.

Pocono Mountain West beat Pocono Mountain East for the second time in 5 days to win the Mountain Trophy for the first time in 12 years. The score was 45 to 30. The following individuals got pins. The team currently is 7-8 and will wrestle at the MLK Duals this Saturday.

PM West junior forward Chris Tambasco named to the Pennsylvania All-State Soccer Team
Congratulations to Caroline Weirich and Chris Tambasco for earning first team all EPC honors in Girls and Boys Soccer.
Junior Chris Tambasco scored his 50th career goal against Dieruff High School on Sept 25th. He went on to add goals 51 and 52 in the game as well. Chris is the all time leading scorer at PM West.
2017-2018:
Congratulations Greg Bensley!
Greg Bensley became the first person in school history to finish 3rd at PIAA AAA states last weekend. He on his way he beat Ian Elenfeld of Laurel Highland, 1st seed, 1st ranked in state, 19th in the nation, #2 ranked Cole Forrester of Shippensburg, and #3 ranked Jake Slinger of Upper Saint Clair. Also, he broke the school record of 90 wins set by James Gonzalez of 90 wins. He finished his career with 97 wins and 19 losses. Lastly, he holds the most medals for regionals, 3, state medals 2. Congratulations to Greg Bensely on a record setting 2 weeks of competition.

Greg won the District XI wrestling championship at 220 this past weekend @ Liberty High School.
Greg is only the 2nd wrestler in PMW history to win this prestigious award!
He will advance to the Northeast Regional tournament this weekend.

The Pocono Mountain wrestling team was nominated by the referees for the 2017-2018 Sportsmanship award and won.
Congratulations go out to Greg Bensley - he was recently awarded the Scholar Athlete Award in football for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
Greg has developed his athletic skills at Pocono Mountain West High School through his dedication to the varsity football, track, and wrestling teams. He distinguished himself among other players when he was named 1st team EPC linebacker in 2015, 2016, and 2017, as well as 1st team EPC tight end in 2017. In 2012 Greg was the PJW state wrestling champion, and in 2017 he earned the EPC Defensive MVP award. Recognizing the importance of combining personal integrity with athletics, he also works on the Student Athlete Character Council. Greg is an accomplished athlete who also strives for academic excellence. While challenging himself to take Advanced Placement and Honors courses, Greg has earned a 98.47 GPA, has attained Distinguished Honor Roll status throughout high school, and has earned a class rank of #4 out of 388 seniors. Recognizing the importance of community involvement, he has worked as a volunteer coach for youth basketball and baseball, and serves as a mentor for younger students in the PM school district. Greg is employed by Moyer’s Country Kitchen in Pocono Lake, PA.
