My name is Dr. Ann Marie Vaughn and I am excited to be serving as Principal of Pocono Mountain West Junior High School. Prior to coming to WJHS I served as Principal at Clear Run Intermediate School for three years, as well as Assistant principal of Pocono Mountain West Junior High for one year when coming to Pocono Mountain in 2018. Prior to jumping into my administrative career, I served as a teacher in the Nazareth Area School District for 10 years, teaching Math, ELA, and Science. I am a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and hold instructional certificates in English as a Second Language (ESL), Middle Level Math and Middle Level Science. I also have two Master’s Degrees in Classroom Technology and Educational Development and Strategies through Wilkes University. Finally, I completed my Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Delaware Valley University, where my research has led to changes and initiatives at the state level for teachers and administrators.

Personally, I live with my husband and three children in Easton, PA, where I grew up as well. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, our dogs, taking hikes, going on bike rides and staying active.

I am incredibly humbled and excited to be working with Pocono Mountain West Junior High School students, families and the community. I look forward to working together to overcome a number of challenges which are presented to us throughout the school year. Here at WJHS it is incredibly important that we foster a strong school community and we involve students, parents and community stakeholders in a number of school events.  I strongly believe that a solid relationship between school and home fosters a firm educational foundation and reinforces the importance of education both at home and in school. I am here to help students, their families and the community navigate through that journey to achieve positive outcomes, and I am grateful for that opportunity.

My name is Aliya Grindle. I am excited to be joining the West Junior High family as the new Assistant Principal.  I was born and raised in the area and attended Pocono Mountain and graduated high school prior to the split of the district. After graduation, I attended East Stroudsburg University where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I began my teaching career at Wallenpaupack School District, where I taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade. While at Wallenpaupack, I earned my Master’s Degree in Education Strategies and Development through Wilkes University. After four years at Wallenpaupack, I moved to Daytona Beach, Florida and taught 3rd grade at Westside Elementary. I returned home in 2008 and had my first son, Jaiden. At that time, I went back to East Stroudsburg University to obtain a Master’s Degree in Reading Education/Reading Specialist. In the fall of 2010, I was hired as a third grade teacher for Pocono Mountain Swiftwater Elementary. Due to the budget cuts, I was furloughed into a long term K-6 Reading Specialist position in various buildings the following school year. In 2013, I was blessed with my second son, Jasiah, and was offered a teaching position with East Stroudsburg Area School District. I taught 7th and 8th grade reading for 9 years. During that time, I pursued my role in leadership and earned my Administrative Leadership Certification from ESU. Additionally, I served as a Team Leader, Department Chair, Positive Behavior Committee Leader, a representative of the Diversity Education Inclusion Committee (DEI) and on the Student Assistant Program (SAP) Team. I look forward to working with the PMSD staff, students and families.
