Health & Physical Education
As this new school year begins, the Health and Physical Education staff would like to welcome all students back to Swiftwater Intermediate School (SIS) and remind parents/guardians about the importance of your child’s Physical Education Program.
Sedentary activities such as computers and video games have certainly increased amongst intermediate school children throughout the country. Physical Education in school is the cornerstone of an active lifestyle for all students. The Physical Education Program at SIS provides the skills, knowledge and attitudes that facilitate choosing physical activity after school, at home, and in the community.
Our goal in Physical Education is for everyone to learn to make healthy choices and feel successful when participating in a variety of physical activities. This enables students to develop a positive attitude toward physical activity and to develop healthy habits, which will hopefully continue throughout their lives.
Students will be encouraged to have fun and enjoy Physical Education. They will also be encouraged to participate to the best of their ability in a wide variety of activities. At the Intermediate School level, certain skills are taught so that students will be able to pursue competitive sports as well as lifetime fitness.
Looking ahead at the school year - activities such as Fitnessgram, Family Fitness Night, Jump Rope/Hoops For Heart, and Field Day are again planned this year to promote fitness, socialization, family bonding, and community service as an extension of our Physical Education Program at SIS.
We look forward to being a significant part of your child’s life. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
