ACCESS Testing

  • Between January 5,2023 and February 17, 2023, ELL students in grades kindergarten through grade twelve will participate in the administration of the ACCESS for ELLS Proficiency Test. The ACCESS is a required assessment that provides a standardized measurement of academic language proficiency for English Language Learners (ELL) students throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Each form of the test assesses the four language domains of listening, reading, speaking , and writing. This information allows us to monitor individual ELL student progress on an annual basis.

    EDUCATING ENGLISH LEARNERS

There are more than 61,000 English Learners (ELs) speaking more than 200 different languages in Pennsylvania. The education of students whose dominant language is not English and who are ELs is the responsibility of every Local Education Agency (LEA). Title 22, Chapter 4, Section 4.26 of the Curriculum Regulations requires the LEA to provide a program for every student who is an English learner (EL).

The goal of language instruction educational programs (LIEPs) is to facilitate the development and attainment of English proficiency and academic achievement of students whose native or first language is not English. Without       instruction in social and academic English and appropriate support for learning academic content, these students are at risk of losing the educational opportunities provided to      non-EL students.

ESL at SIS

  •

Swiftwater Intermediate School welcomes staff and students in grades 4-6.  The ESL teachers at SIS are Ms. Bonczewski & Mrs. McGee.

The beginning of the school year is always an exciting time to reconnect with old friends and to meet new friends, too! We are happily settling into a routine that includes practicing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Also, we are in the process of planning many new and exciting events to promote “P.R.I.D.E.” our school-wide positive rewards program.

Please contact Ms. Bonczewski or Mrs. McGee with any questions or concerns.
