Welcome to the SIS Library!
My name is Victoria Savo and I am very excited to be your child’s librarian. I have been a librarian in the Pocono Mountain School District for 8 years working at Pocono Elementary, Switwater Elementary, Clear Run Elementary, Clear Run Intermediate, and Swiftwater Intermediate Schools.
Our library secretary is Janet Hill who has also been with the district for 25 years! In addition to SIS Janet has worked at Coolbaugh Learning Center, and Pocono Elementary.
Our goal is to insure that our students experience a lively, enjoyable, and productive year in the library.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some information about our library program.
This is a teaching library. Our goals are to:
Foster a love of books and literature
Teach library skills such as:
- Using the online card catalog to locate materials
- Understanding library organization and layout
- Becoming familiar with various reference sources and the information they contain
- Learning research skills utilizing both print and electronic resources.
Each homeroom has one 45 minute library class each 6 day cycle. The students can check out 2 books each at this time in addition to any grade level novel they may be studying in their ELA classes. Please encourage your child to return his or her books on their assigned day. If they are still reading the book they can renew it as many times as they like as long as no one else is waiting for it.
We do not charge overdue fines but if a book is lost or damaged the school district does require the replacement cost to be paid. The average cost for a hardcover book is $20 (some are more; some less). This charge must be paid before more books can be checked out.
I want the students to enjoy our beautiful library and to feel free to ask for my help in locating materials, doing research, or just to chat about a book they have read or that they recommend that we purchase for the library.
If you have any questions I can be reached at extension 60400 from 8:45 to 4:15 any weekday.
It is my hope that all students at SIS have a positive and productive library experience.
