Pocono Mountain East High School
Pocono Mountain East High School is located in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania, and is situated on the Pocono Mountain School District’s Swiftwater Campus. Constructed in 1993, the building houses 85 instructional areas along with a 400 seat cafeteria, a 1,200 seat auditorium, and a 3,000 seat gymnasium.
The school has 1,070 students in grades 9 through 12. A demographic snapshot of the student body reveals that 58% are Caucasian, 21% are African-American, 17% are Latino/Hispanic, 2% are Asian, 0.7% are Multi-racial and 0.2% are American Indian/Alaskan Native.
The current graduation rate is 94.2%.
All students need a minimum of 22 credits to graduate, with content area requirements listed below:
English 4 courses Mathematics 4 courses
Science 3 courses Electives 6 courses
Social Studies 3 courses PE/Health 2 courses
Additionally, all students must demonstrate proficiency in math and reading through the Keystone Assessments or the local Pathways to Proficiency program. Students enrolled in a program of study at the Monroe County Technical Institute (MCTI) attend East High School for one-half of the day and MCTI for the other half-day.
Course grading is done on a percentage scale from 0% - 100% with a minimum passing grade of 65%.
Students may select from Advanced Placement (AP), Honors, Academic, or Applied course offerings. AP and Honors grades are weighted for GPA purposes only with +4% and +2% respectively.
74% of graduates attend trade, 2-year, or 4-year college programs after graduation, 5% enter military service and 21% enter the workforce.
Pocono Mountain East High School also offers a wide range of co-curricular activities for students. Currently, 18 PIAA-sanctioned interscholastic sports are offered as well as 26 clubs.
