Secondary Library

  • The Pocono Mountain Library program strives to fulfill the school district’s mission ―to prepare all students for tomorrow’s challenges and opportunities.‖ The program provides an environment to foster intellectual freedom, to encourage intellectual curiosity, and to ensure information literacy. An effective school Library program focuses on the process of learning rather than on dissemination of information. Information literacy, the ability to find, evaluate and use information, is the keystone of lifelong learning. Application of these skills within content areas assists students in meeting the academic standards and core education skills.

Librarians are an integral part in implementing educational initiatives and changes in curriculum as mandated by the Federal and State Educational systems and Pocono Mountain School District. Librarians maintain the library collection to reflect school curriculum requirements. Collaboration and instructing library skills with other teachers is an essential part of maintaining a library program which continues to grow as curriculum changes. Knowledge acquired today may be obsolete tomorrow while information and use of searching strategies, once learned, become lifelong skills. As the amount of information increases, the most current and appropriate resources must be available to ensure students’ achievement of academic standards.
