    Property Tax Collectors:
     
    Elected municipal tax collectors collect the school's real estate taxes each year. The tax collectors are responsible for collecting the school taxes and remitting them to the District. In addition, the tax collectors are responsible for providing information regarding whether or not a property owner's current year taxes were paid, preparing tax certifications and tax duplicate bills.

    Taxpayers, Abstract Companies and Mortgage Companies can obtain information regarding whether or not a certain parcel's taxes were paid.

    Tax Collection Schedule:
     
    The schedule for regular real estate taxes levied by the Pocono Mountain School District is as follows: 
     
     August 1  Levy Date
     August 1 - September 30  2% Discount Period
     October 1 - November 30  Face Payment Period
     December 1 - December 31  10% Penalty Period
     January 1  Lien Date
     
    Taxpayers have the option of paying in three installments. These installments are due on or before the following dates:
     
     First Installment  August 31       
     Second Installment  October 31
     Third Installment  December 31

    The discount (two percent) is not applicable to the installment payments; however, the penalty (ten percent) will be added if second and third installments are paid subsequent to the due dates.


    All taxes not collected will be turned over to the Monroe County Tax Claim Bureau. Arrangements must be made with the Monroe County Tax Claim Bureau for payment of all tax payments after December 31.

    Tax Calculation Example:

    A taxpayer residing in the Pocono Mountain School District owns a property that has an assessed value¹  of $25,000.

    The current School District millage rate for the fiscal year 2017-2018 is 135.29

    The amount due for school taxes is calculated as follows:

    School Tax = Assessed Value of Property x Current Year Millage Rate

    School Tax = $25,000 x 0.13529

    School Tax = $3,382.25

    2% Discount period: (Amount due if paid between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30): $3,314.61

    Base period: (Amount due if paid between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30): $3,382.25

    10% Penalty period: (Amount due if paid between Dec. 1 and Dec. 31): $3,720.48

    ¹ Assessed Value is determined by the Monroe County Assessment Office and is calculated by using 25% of the property's current market value at the time of the property's assessment. In the above example, the Assessed Value of $25,000 is calculated by multiplying the Market Value of $100,000 by 25%.
